The town of Mancos announced Wednesday that it plans to close Boyle Park for weed management on June 5.<\/p>\n
According to a release from Town Administrator Heather Alvarez, the town has contracted with Advantage K-Lawn to conduct fertilization and weed abatement on that day. Advantage K-Lawn is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and its methods have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to the release.<\/p>\n
Alvarez said she plans to post a more detailed list of the chemicals used at the park on the town website on Friday.<\/p>\n
At its meeting on May 9, the Mancos town board informally approved a switch from last year\u2019s organic weed control methods to more traditional \u201cweed-and-feed\u201d methods, saying the park\u2019s weeds have grown out of control since the town went organic.<\/p>\n
To alleviate the concerns of residents who are worried about the safety of non-organic spraying, Alvarez promised to publicize upcoming weed maintenance in advance.<\/p>\n
