In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Cortez Middle School English teacher Lissa Lycan is planning a schoolwide gathering on Oct. 15 in the CMS cafeteria from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cHispanic Heritage Night is a chance to celebrate the amazing cultural diversity we have in our community and our schools,\u201d Lycan said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The event will include activities, art, performances and food created by local students and families, and Lycan is looking for wider involvement from the community as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking for volunteers to help plan activities, make food, play music or any other contribution that would make this night meaningful to our students and our community,\u201d Lycan said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Lycan says the event will be a small step toward the \u201cimportant goal\u201d of making Cortez Middle School \u201ca place where everyone sees themselves as welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n
