The holiday spirit is alive at The Journal office in downtown Cortez with the addition of the annual Angel Tree, part of the Pi\u00f1on Project\u2019s Christmas for Kids 2018 program.<\/p>\n

From Thanksgiving to mid-December, people throughout Montezuma County can stop by The Journal, at 8 W. Main St., and select a handmade angel from the Christmas tree, each with a child\u2019s name and wish list on the back.<\/p>\n

These generous individuals purchase and wrap gifts for the child and drop them off at the Pi\u00f1on Project\u2019s North Pole Drop off Center, at 210 E. Main St, before Dec. 14.<\/p>\n

Tamara Desrosiers, receptionist and digital recruitment strategist at The Journal, said families have stopped by with children and grandchildren to select an angel, taking great interest in giving to people who are less fortunate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just love it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Journal started with 10 angels on the tree and is now down to five, but there\u2019s always an opportunity for more.<\/p>\n

Desrosiers said she usually hands out about 15 angels. She makes each one by hand with doilies, pipe cleaners and gold and silver bows.<\/p>\n
