{"id":96138,"date":"2019-01-18T17:12:28","date_gmt":"2019-01-19T00:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/pine-river-times-print-edition-to-transition-to-online\/"},"modified":"2019-01-18T17:12:28","modified_gmt":"2019-01-19T00:12:28","slug":"pine-river-times-print-edition-to-transition-to-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/pine-river-times-print-edition-to-transition-to-online\/","title":{"rendered":"Pine River Times print edition to transition to online"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ballantine Communications Inc. has announced that it will transition the print edition of the<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe changes better reflect the needs of the community and our own business,\u201d Ballantine CEO Doug Bennett said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a decline in subscriptions, advertising and voters approving a measure that will allow the town of Bayfield to publish legal notices in full only on its own website, we were required to audit <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Pine River Times<\/em> expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bennett said the economic challenges of delivering two print products to a market that is widely reading and subscribing to both the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Times<\/em> and the<em class=\"Nimrod Ital\"> Herald<\/em> are driving the decision to transition the print-only edition of the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Times<\/em> into the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Herald<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this audit, we also determined that a different approach is required for coverage of community news about Bayfield and Ignacio,\u201d Bennett said. \u201cWe will continue to deliver news specifically about the Pine River Valley in print but will do so within the print pages of the<em class=\"Nimrod Ital\"> Herald<\/em>. We will also publish daily relevant news to our <a href=\"https:\/\/pinerivertimes.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pinerivertimes.com<\/a> website, which will remain active. We have seen significant growth in our online audience, and it warrants continued efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The last print edition of the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Times<\/em> will publish Feb. 1, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision to close our office and to discontinue our print edition was not easy. We recognize that the Pine River Valley is the fastest-growing area in La Plata County, and we are committed to keeping the residents informed with news, features and sports stories,\u201d Bennett said.<\/p>\n<p>As it was before Ballantine Communications acquired the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Times<\/em> in 2014, the<em class=\"Nimrod Ital\"> Herald<\/em> will have a dedicated full-time reporter covering the Pine River Valley. Beginning Feb. 8 and every Friday after, Priest\u2019s sports coverage will be in the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Herald<\/em>\u2019s new Bayfield and Ignacio pages containing news, feature and sports stories about the Pine River Valley. These dedicated pages will be in the <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Herald<\/em>\u2019s Friday edition.<\/p>\n<p>The <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Herald<\/em>will produce and update news on pinerivertimes.com and share that information on our <em class=\"Nimrod Ital\">Times<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pinerivertimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook page<\/a>, which will also remain active.
