{"id":95486,"date":"2019-02-22T13:06:17","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T20:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/in-new-space-craft-food-maker-has-room-to-grow\/"},"modified":"2019-02-22T13:06:17","modified_gmt":"2019-02-22T20:06:17","slug":"in-new-space-craft-food-maker-has-room-to-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/in-new-space-craft-food-maker-has-room-to-grow\/","title":{"rendered":"In new space, craft food maker has room to grow"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:44b5f6cd-bb83-4264-a58c-d49927e2a961 --><\/p>\n<p>Durango Artisan Foods has escaped cramped quarters on Colorado Highway 3 and is now enjoying elbow room in a kitchen double its old size.<\/p>\n<p>The additional space has allowed the craft food maker to expand its retail sales after moving to the 3100 block of north Main Avenue, in a location formerly occupied by The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theyellowcarrot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yellow Carrot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Grubis, who owns <a href=\"https:\/\/durangoartisanfoods.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Durango Artisan Foods<\/a> with his wife, Kara, said the purchase of O\u2019Hara\u2019s Jams and Jellies, in December 2018, put the business on an accelerated growth path.<\/p>\n<p>Added space for Durango Artisan Foods, which makes small-batch products such as salsas, hot sauces, barbecue sauces, mustards, jams, jellies and spice blends, will also allow it to rent its kitchen, refrigeration space and freezer space to other small craft-food producers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of demand for commercial kitchen space in Durango, especially with refrigeration and freezer space,\u201d Grubis said. \u201cWe started out cooking at the fairgrounds, and we know how hard it is. Our friends enjoy being guinea pigs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A recent partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/skabrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ska Brewing<\/a> Co. has led to two of DAF\u2019s latest products,  True Blonde Honey Mustard and Mexican Logger Jalapeno Hot Sauce.<\/p>\n<p>In the works, for release in the next month or so, are Buster Nut Brown Maple Mustard and Pin Stripe Salsa.<\/p>\n<p>DAF also makes a Steamworks Backside Stout Mustard.<\/p>\n<p>Added visibility on north Main has already helped foot traffic.
