He added that the letter stated that Mancos has been designated as a \u201csanctuary city\u201d by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and used anti-immigrant rhetoric to solicit donations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no supporting documentation showing the town of Mancos is a \u2018sanctuary city,\u2019\u201d Goodall said.<\/p>\n<p>An email sent to The Journal, purportedly by Ed Hutchison of <a href=\"Hutchison\">National Police Association<\/a>, told The Journal in an email that the 501(c)3 nonprofit did not call Mancos a \u201csanctuary city.\u201d In fact, the letter obtained by The Journal and addressed to a Mancos Post Office box, told the recipient that he lived in a \u201cSanctuary Area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He declined to speak with a Journal reporter on the phone.<\/p>\n<p>Goodall said he knew of only one recipient who received the letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not give money to people that call on the phone or send letters with threatening statements,\u201d Goodall said.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_shirttail\">This article was updated on March 27 to include statements rebutting the Mancos marshal\u2019s statement.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Goodall called it a \u201cscam.\u201d Goodall said the Marshal\u2019s Office was made aware of the incident after the recipient brought forward the mail received.
