Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado had successful surgery for prostate cancer and requires no further treatment, a spokeswoman said Friday.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the 54-year-old Democratic senator said he planned to have surgery to remove his prostate gland<\/a> during the congressional spring recess after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.<\/p>\n

Courtney Gidner, a spokeswoman for Bennet, emailed a statement Friday that \u201clast weekend, Michael underwent surgery and is recovering at his home in Colorado.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis doctors report the surgery was completely successful, and he requires no further treatment,\u201d she wrote. \u201cMichael and his family deeply appreciate the well wishes and support from Coloradans and others across the country, and he looks forward to returning to work after the recess.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bennet told The Colorado Independent in a previous interview that he had intended to announce his presidential bid in April and decided to get a physical beforehand.
