Construction begins north of Towaoc this week.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The following areas will be impacted, CDOT said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Construction of alternating passing lanes between mile points 27.75 and 29.75.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Realignment of County Roads A and B to create T-junctions with U.S. 160\/491 for improved sight distance.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Closure of CR 21, which lies between A and B, to eliminate access conflicts along this stretch.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Installation of a waterline and slip-lining an existing wooden drainage structure under the highway.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Installation of new guardrail and guardrail end sections.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">New fencing, seeding and striping.<\/em>In March 2018, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe a $2 million TIGER grant to help pay for the $11.2 million project.<\/p>\n<p>Through the project\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s completion in late December, motorists can single-lane, alternating travel where work zones exist, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during summer, Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Motorists are urged to drive with care through construction zones and watch for workers and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>For questions or comments, call CDOT at 560-1211 or email <a href=\"mailto:us160.491passinglanes@gmail.com\">us160.491passinglanes@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cobb of Alert Traffic Control encourages drivers to slow down as they make their way through a construction zone.
