{"id":93736,"date":"2019-05-31T18:55:28","date_gmt":"2019-06-01T00:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-man-charged-with-six-felonies-for-child-pornography\/"},"modified":"2019-05-31T18:55:28","modified_gmt":"2019-06-01T00:55:28","slug":"durango-man-charged-with-six-felonies-for-child-pornography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-man-charged-with-six-felonies-for-child-pornography\/","title":{"rendered":"Durango man charged with six felonies for child pornography"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Durango man suspected of downloading thousands of images of child pornography was formally charged Thursday with six felonies.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=efc7dca5-6335-4915-97e5-3e859c95f4a6&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Schoepke\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Schoepke<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Lucas Schoepke, 36, faces three counts of possessing a video of child pornography and three counts of possessing more than 20 \u201citems\u201d that \u201cqualify as sexually exploitative,\u201d according to charging documents. The Class 4 felonies are punishable by two to six years in prison and\/or a fine of $2,000 to $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant District Attorney David Ottman said the penalties for each charge, if Schoepke pleads guilty or is convicted, could run concurrently or consecutively \u2013 it depends on the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement <a href=\"https:\/\/durangoherald.com\/articles\/278129\">accused Schoepke of downloading 1,825 images and 176 videos of suspected child pornography<\/a> onto an HP laptop and ZTE cellphone.<\/p>\n<p>An investigator with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force identified potential child pornography being downloaded through an internet protocol address associated with a home in the 200 block of Wood Crest Drive and notified La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s investigators, according to an arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>An internet protocol address, or IP address, is a numerical label assigned for the purpose of identifying an electronic device that accesses the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff\u2019s Office investigators searched the home in the 200 block of Wood Crest Drive and found Schoepke, the HP laptop with a hard drive with the user name \u201cLucas\u201d and the ZTE cellphone in Schoepke\u2019s pocket, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Schoepke\u2019s defense attorney and a prosecutor spent about five minutes speaking in private with District Court Judge Suzanne Carlson at a charging and bail hearing Thursday. After the private conversation, Carlson rescheduled the bail hearing to Thursday, June 6.
