Colorado Parks and Wildlife is accepting public comment until midnight June 26 about structuring big-game hunting seasons from 2020 to 2024.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">The Journal file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Colorado Parks and Wildlife is accepting public comment until midnight June 26 about structuring big-game hunting seasons from 2020 to 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The season structure, which is reviewed every five years to provide \u201cconsistency and predictability\u201d to hunters, focuses on four areas: the type of species able to be hunted, dates for hunting, areas available for hunters and how seasons will be divided among weapon-specific hunts.<\/p>\n<p>The new season structure would begin in March 2020, after late 2019 seasons have ended.<\/p>\n<p>CPW\u2019s five-year reviews provide time for wildlife managers to collect and review hunting data, said Travis Duncan, a spokesman for CPW.<\/p>\n<p>The four objectives were chosen based on a public feedback effort, according to an internal <a href=\"https:\/\/cpw.state.co.us\/Documents\/Policy-Planning\/CPW-BGSS-Staff-Recommendations-June-2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">memo<\/a> sent to the CPW commission.<\/p>\n<p>CPW accepts comment from resident and nonresident hunters, Duncan said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">How to comment<\/div>\n<p>People who want to share their ideas may fill out an online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.net\/r\/JP8Z868\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">form<\/a> or email <a href=\"mailto:https:\/\/www.research.net\/r\/JP8Z868?subject=\">dnr_cpw_planning@state.co.us<\/a> by June 26.<\/p>\n<p>People who want comment directly may attend the commission\u2019s meeting at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at Otero Junior College Student Center, 2001 San Juan Ave., in La Junta. The commission also plans to meet Friday, June 7, for a big-game management workshop.<\/p>\n<p>According to a news release, the CPW commission will review early recommendations during its June meeting in La Junta and approve the season structure at its meeting July 18-19 in Telluride.
