Comments are accepted through Aug. 5.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Bureau of Land Management has released a draft environmental assessment for public review that evaluates a lease application submitted by GCC Energy\u2019s King II Coal Mine, which is about 15 miles west of Durango.<\/p>\n<p>The environmental assessment, \u201cDunn Ranch Area Lease-By-Application and Mine Plan Modification,\u201d is being prepared jointly with the U.S. Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The BLM will hold a public hearing to receive public comments about the lease application and the preliminary environmental assessment from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the BLM Tres Rios Field Office, 29211 Colorado Highway 184, in Dolores.<\/p>\n<p>An informational session about the project and environmental assessment also will be held 5 to 6 p.m. July 24 at the Dolores office.<\/p>\n<p>The draft environmental assessment, maps and information about how to comment electronically are available through the BLM ePlanning site at <a href=\"https:\/\/go.usa.gov\/xEKTV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.go.usa.gov\/xEKTV<\/a>.
