{"id":92805,"date":"2019-07-26T20:57:28","date_gmt":"2019-07-26T20:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/la-plata-county-serves-as-backdrop-for-short-film\/"},"modified":"2019-07-26T20:57:28","modified_gmt":"2019-07-26T20:57:28","slug":"la-plata-county-serves-as-backdrop-for-short-film","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/la-plata-county-serves-as-backdrop-for-short-film\/","title":{"rendered":"La Plata County serves as backdrop for \u2018short film\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=1f9d6cb5-a87f-42c6-a2f1-217aa1403499&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1050\" alt=\"Great Outdoors Colorado has introduced \u201cWilder,\u201d a combination yeti, mountain goat and golden doodle, who befriends children and encourages their outdoor adventures in a $2.5 million advertising campaign that includes a short film shot in La Plata County.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Great Outdoors Colorado has introduced \u201cWilder,\u201d a combination yeti, mountain goat and golden doodle, who befriends children and encourages their outdoor adventures in a $2.5 million advertising campaign that includes a short film shot in La Plata County.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Great Outdoors Colorado<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Various locales around Durango serve as inspiring outdoor vistas enticing children to drop their smartphones and bask in the great outdoors, a more common activity for youngsters in the pre-Steve Jobs world.<\/p>\n<p>Junction Creek, Falls Creek, Haviland Lake and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durango.org\/discover-durango\/dalla-mountain-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dalla Mountain Park<\/a> all serve as backdrops in a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.generationwild.com\/meet-wilder?fbclid=IwAR1tHlnXj4sja2iFx-NIsd6ou4iB0YS-GNWQI9A1LWD71VtamCzprkPz7TY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3-minute short film<\/a> introducing the character \u201cWilder,\u201d a combination yeti, mountain goat and golden doodle, who befriends children and encourages their outdoor explorations as part of Great Outdoors Colorado\u2019s latest Generation Wild marketing campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to reconnect a generation of kids with nature and the joy of unstructured play we all enjoyed growing up,\u201d said Rosemary Dempsey, director of communications with Great Outdoors Colorado. \u201cKids are increasingly disconnected to nature, and we want to reduce barriers to the outdoors and decrease obstacles to outdoor play and the disparities children have in their ability to safely play outside.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video wp-block-embed-youtube naviga-video-embed\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R5AnH6M0viI\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Dempsey said a growing body of research shows unstructured outdoor play provides emotional, social, physical and cognitive developmental benefits to children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted Wilder to be the embodiment of wonder you feel in nature,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Durangoan Jack Turner served as site manager for the short film, produced in conjunction with Sukle Advertising &amp; Design, a Denver advertising firm.<\/p>\n<p>Turner\u2019s parents\u2019 home in Crestview even served as the site for a girl\u2019s family home in the short film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe film really appeals to adults, too,\u201d Turner said. \u201cIt reminds them how fun it was to just get outside on their own as a kid. It\u2019s really a clever tactic because kids can\u2019t make decisions on their own. They need their parents\u2019 consent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilder made his official debut on television July 15, and he will be scheduled for live appearances at events across Colorado throughout the summer. Wilder\u2019s nearest scheduled appearance to Durango will be at the <a href=\"http:\/\/olathesweetcornfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olathe Sweet Corn Festival<\/a> on Aug. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Dempsey said the Wilder $2.5 million advertising campaign will be used on social media websites, television and as promotions before films at theaters.
