Hundreds of people attended the Dolores Harvest Festival Saturday.<\/p>\n
The expanded all-day event organized by the Dolores Chamber of Commerce featured fresh produce, competition events, a car show, live music and locally made apple cider.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt brought a lot of people out, and that was really exciting to see,\u201d said chamber director Susan Lisak.<\/p>\n
She added multiple events this year, including a strongman and strongwoman competition, National FFA Organization petting zoo, a car show and chili contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were expecting 25 cars, but 50 came for the show,\u201d Lisak said. More than 500 votes were cast for best cars and trucks. Models included Corvettes, Mustangs, Studebakers and Dodge Vipers.<\/p>\n
Kid events were held too, including bobbing for apples, hay rides, three-legged race and doughnut on a string. Montezuma School to Farm provided pumpkins for kids to take home for Halloween.<\/p>\n
Twenty-two adults competed in a strongman and strongwoman competition sponsored by CrossFit Cortez. Teams were timed on a variety of challenges, including hauling heavy buckets and flipping monster tractor tires.<\/p>\n
For the car show, Ben Deason\u2019s 1959 Triumph TR3a was named \u201cbest car,\u201d Kyle Chadwick\u2019s 1968 GMC four-wheel drive was \u201cbest truck,\u201d PG West\u2019s 1959 custom Corvette was \u201cbest in show,\u201d and Lyle Rice\u2019s custom Combine was \u201cbest rat rod.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the CrossFit Cortez competition, first place in the men\u2019s team division went to Jason Eversole and Sean Fitzgerald. Airoughn Van Grandt and Maddisyn Van Grandt took first place in the women\u2019s team division.<\/p>\n
For the chili contest, Trudy Adkins took first place in the red chili category, and Brandy Randall took first place in the green chili category.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
