{"id":91925,"date":"2019-10-30T21:38:59","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T21:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/greenlight-a-veteran-in-montezuma-county\/"},"modified":"2019-10-30T21:38:59","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T21:38:59","slug":"greenlight-a-veteran-in-montezuma-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/greenlight-a-veteran-in-montezuma-county\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Greenlight a Veteran\u2019 in Montezuma County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:42d97fdf-ef89-42ec-9526-a67a9e5f97ff --><\/p>\n<p>The city of Cortez and Montezuma County are encouraging residents to join in a national campaign to honor veterans on Nov. 11.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cGreenlight a Veteran\u201d movement asks residents to change one light bulb in their home to green to show support for veterans.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Karen Sheek has compiled an official proclamation in support of the movement, and the City Council will consider approving it at an upcoming meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would just be a way of us promoting thoughtfulness for those people who have served in our armed forces,\u201d Sheek said at the Oct. 22 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The color green represents \u201chope, renewal and well-being\u201d and the word \u201cgreenlight\u201d is \u201ccommonly used to activate forward movement,\u201d according to the proclamation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us honor our veterans not only on November 11th but all year-round by changing one light to green in a visible location \u2013 on your porch, your home or at your office, and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of appreciation and support for our veterans,\u201d the proclamation states.<\/p>\n<p>Montezuma County commissioners also signed the proclamation.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenlightavet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national campaign<\/a> also encourages Greenlight participants to post a photo of their light and location on an online map so that veterans can view the widespread support, or post a photo on social media with the hashtag #greenlightavet.<\/p>\n<p>Veterans Day on Nov. 11 honors veterans of all U.S. wars.
