Rita Warfield said the first incident occurred at Albertsons, 311 West College Drive, about 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

Albertsons staff called police to report the theft. Officers arrived to review security footage and saw two men stealing beer and leaving the store.

Fernandezdu1-i-syn

Durango officers identified the men, who were known to authorities, as Max Bosco, 39, and Martin Fernandez, 22.

Police were able to locate Bosco not long after the incident and arrest him for burglary, Warfield said. Police were unable to locate Fernandez.

Later that day, Mac’s Liquor Store called police to report an “extremely intoxicated” person trying to steal liquor, Warfield said. When authorities arrived, they recognized the person trying to steal liquor as Fernandez, and he, too, was arrested for burglary.

In a separate incident, staff at North Main Coin Laundry, at 2980 Main Ave., discovered Monday morning that someone had broken in overnight and stolen money.

Warfield said someone broke through the metal bars on a window in the back of the laundromat and climbed in. She said the person stole a “substantial amount of money.”

“It was all in quarters, but it was a lot,” she said.

Warfield said there are no suspects as of Monday afternoon.

Also Monday morning, construction crews at the new Holiday Inn Express site at 1111 Camino del Rio, next to Natural Grocers, discovered tools missing.

Warfield said the theft likely occurred between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday. She did not have a dollar amount but said “quite a few” tools were missing.

“They have webbing and fencing around it (the construction site), but it’s hard to secure that area when it’s open construction,” she said. “Someone decided to take a chance and lay their tools there.”

Many of the tools were discovered later in the day Monday under the bridge at Iris Park, just north of the construction site. Items are still missing, however. Warfield said there were no suspects as of Monday afternoon.

Authorities don’t believe any of the burglaries are connected, Warfield said.

jromeo@durangoherald.com

[120,168,1065,29,74

post-91744","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-colorado","tag-crime","tag-durango-police-department","tag-newsletter","tag-theft
["GET
