{"id":91531,"date":"2019-11-26T22:33:25","date_gmt":"2019-11-26T22:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/montezuma-cortez-declares-school-board-vacancy\/"},"modified":"2019-11-26T22:33:25","modified_gmt":"2019-11-26T22:33:25","slug":"montezuma-cortez-declares-school-board-vacancy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/montezuma-cortez-declares-school-board-vacancy\/","title":{"rendered":"Montezuma-Cortez declares school board vacancy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:227692f0-e315-4908-8b49-e47d8eb0c634 --><\/p>\n<p>The Montezuma-Cortez school board is currently one member down and is seeking candidates to fill the vacancy.<\/p>\n<p>The open seat comes after Kara Suckla decided not to seek reelection in the latest November election, and no one else ran for the seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a pleasure to serve with all of you,\u201d Suckla said at the Nov. 19 board meeting for the Montezuma-Cortez School District Re-1, where she was presented with an award for her service.<\/p>\n<p>Suckla represented District G, which covers a wide swath of land west of U.S. Highway 491 and north of County Road G. She was appointed to the board in late 2015, and then re-elected for the post in November 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe difference you\u2019ve made in the lives of our students is ultimately what we\u2019re about,\u201d Superintendent Lori Haukeness said at last week\u2019s board meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The board officially declared a vacancy at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>According to board rules, the vacancy can be posted for up to 60 days, although the board can interview candidates before that time is up.
