{"id":88878,"date":"2020-05-01T20:02:43","date_gmt":"2020-05-02T02:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/agencies-in-four-corners-seek-suspects-after-shots-fired-in-aneth\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T04:27:57","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:27:57","slug":"agencies-in-four-corners-seek-suspects-after-shots-fired-in-aneth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/agencies-in-four-corners-seek-suspects-after-shots-fired-in-aneth\/","title":{"rendered":"Agencies in Four Corners seek suspects after shots fired in Aneth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:60e5eb9e-29b5-4413-b368-b0211885e0be --><\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement agencies in the Four Corners region are seeking two men believed to be armed and dangerous after shots were fired at law enforcement officers Thursday in Aneth, Utah.<\/p>\n<p>The shots were allegedly fired by Cecil Vijil, who may be traveling with a man named Gary Lee Jr., according to the San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Sheriff\u2019s Office, officials from the FBI, Utah Highway Patrol, and San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office have been investigating an incident that happened early in the morning April 30 at the Mexican Hat 7-Eleven convenience store, which allegedly involved Vijil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday afternoon, in Aneth, while investigating the incident, shots were fired at law enforcement officers by the suspect,\u201d the San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office wrote in a Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sjcoso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> Friday morning. \u201cNo officers were injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post adds, \u201cBoth are considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach these individuals, call 911 or 435-587-2237.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sheriff\u2019s Office has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to Vijil\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p>The San Juan Record <a href=\"https:\/\/sjrnews.com\/news-life-san-juan-montezuma-creek-aneth\/two-men-sought-shooting-officers-aneth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> Friday morning that the two men are in their late 30s, and the \u201csubject of a massive search in the area,\u201d which included a helicopter from the Utah Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n<p>The two men were believed to have fled the area in a black truck with the Colorado license plate WAO 698.<\/p>\n<p>Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin said he had been notified of the suspects.
