Dozens of cars and motorcycles processed down Main Street in Cortez Saturday morning for a \u201cmarchless march\u201d to protest the state\u2019s restrictions preventing businesses from reopening.<\/p>\n
Downtown businesses hoisted American flags to show support for the vehicles, as they wound their way up and down Main Street from 10-10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
Debbie Boyd and Loretta Gilbert came to the march to show their support for civil liberties and property rights, they said. They carried a green banner bearing a Thomas Jefferson quote: \u201cI prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just heard that there were Americans standing up, and we just want to stand too,\u201d Boyd said. \u201cThis is peaceful, and we\u2019re standing on the Constitution. We have people in office and they take an oath to defend and protect the Constitution, so they at least need to figure out what it says.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added that she was grateful that Montezuma County commissioners were opposing the state\u2019s restrictions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t live in a country where we\u2019re fearful of our leaders, or a police state,\u201d Gilbert said.<\/p>\n
Dawn Lingo, a 40-year resident of Montezuma County, was there with a group of motorcycle riders. They were present to show support for the reopening of Colorado, and in opposition to Gov. Jared Polis, she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not right,\u201d she said. \u201cThe government is overstepping their boundaries.\u201d<\/p>\n
