He is running to be the Democratic nominee to challenge U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, in the 2018 congressional race.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado\u2019s 3rd Congressional District is predominately rural and includes 29 counties over 54,000 square miles.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates for Cortez City Council and the Montezuma County Board of Commissioners also plan to attend, just three days before the March 6 caucuses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to strengthen our presence and engage in conversation with residents about the processes of our democracy,\u201d a news release submitted by Henk Huetenk said.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado uses caucuses to choose candidates for the 2018 primary ballot. The Montezuma County caucus starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">Democrats\u2019 goals<\/div>\n<p>According to the news release, the local organization\u2019s goals are:<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Inform the community about the Democratic Platform and local initiatives supported by the Montezuma County Democratic Party.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Support local progressive candidates running for elected offices by providing them with campaign headquarters and a place for conversation with voters. <\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Provide a home base for voter registration.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Encourage and remind residents of Montezuma County that there is a Democratic alternative.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">More information<\/div>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Inform the community about the Democratic Platform and local initiatives supported by the Montezuma County Democratic Party.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Support local progressive candidates running for elected offices by providing them with campaign headquarters and a place for conversation with voters. <\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Provide a home base for voter registration.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Encourage and remind residents of Montezuma County that there is a Democratic alternative.<\/em>Called The People\u2019s Place, the Montezuma County Democrats\u2019 office is meant for party organization, community groups, candidate receptions and meetings.
