The Montezuma County Democrats will host Karl Hanlon, a candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, at their recently opened office on Saturday, March 3, at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

Hanlon, a water and municipal lawyer from Carbondale, is chief legal counsel for the city of Glenwood Springs. He is running to be the Democratic nominee to challenge U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, in the 2018 congressional race.<\/p>\n

Colorado\u2019s 3rd Congressional District is predominately rural and includes 29 counties over 54,000 square miles.<\/p>\n

Candidates for Cortez City Council and the Montezuma County Board of Commissioners also plan to attend, just three days before the March 6 caucuses.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to strengthen our presence and engage in conversation with residents about the processes of our democracy,\u201d a news release submitted by Henk Huetenk said.<\/p>\n

Colorado uses caucuses to choose candidates for the 2018 primary ballot. The Montezuma County caucus starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

According to the news release, the local organization\u2019s goals are:<\/p>\n

Inform the community about the Democratic Platform and local initiatives supported by the Montezuma County Democratic Party.<\/em>Support local progressive candidates running for elected offices by providing them with campaign headquarters and a place for conversation with voters. <\/em>Provide a home base for voter registration.<\/em>Encourage and remind residents of Montezuma County that there is a Democratic alternative.<\/em><\/p>\n

Montezuma County Democrats and Republicans will hold caucuses at 7 p.m. on March 6.

\n Pleasant View Fire Department (Precinct 1), Ponderosa Restaurant (Precinct 2), Lewis-Arriola Community Center (Precinct 3), Lighthouse Baptist Church (Precinct 4), Cortez Elks Lodge (Precinct 5), Towaoc Community Center (Precinct 6), First Assembly of God (Precinct 7), Hospice of Montezuma (Precinct 8), Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church (Precinct 9), Lifeway Baptist Church (Precinct 10) and Mancos Public Library (Precinct 11).

\n the McAfee residence (Precinct 1), Dolores Community Center (Precincts 2 and 3), the Montezuma County Annex (Precincts 4 through 10) and Mount Lookout Grange (Precinct 11).
