{"id":76560,"date":"2018-02-27T21:15:33","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T04:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/art-commission-identifies-two-possible-locations-for-love-sculpture\/"},"modified":"2018-02-28T04:15:33","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T04:15:33","slug":"art-commission-identifies-two-possible-locations-for-love-sculpture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/art-commission-identifies-two-possible-locations-for-love-sculpture\/","title":{"rendered":"Art Commission identifies two possible locations for \u2018LOVE\u2019 sculpture"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=43f4e22a-552e-4ff0-9b54-8f7f585a372d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1772\" height=\"1773\" alt=\"The Durango Public Art Commission voted Tuesday to adopt a $32,000 sculpture that will be donated by the nonprofit Tiospaye and installed in the spring.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The Durango Public Art Commission voted Tuesday to adopt a $32,000 sculpture that will be donated by the nonprofit Tiospaye and installed in the spring.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Tiospaye<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 9-foot-tall, 500-pound art installation features four human figures holding the word \u201clove.\u201d The base of the sculpture will read \u201cWhat\u2019s your vision for the world?\u201d It is intended to leave passers-by considering the question.<\/p>\n<p>The sculpture is one of four art pieces <a href=\"http:\/\/makingrelatives.org\/about-us-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tiospaye<\/a> plans to install in Durango, Ignacio, Aztec and Cortez in an effort to inspire love and peace in the communities.<\/p>\n<p>Tiospaye is a local nonprofit focused on helping people achieve personal development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is all inspired by gathering people\u2019s visions for the world and what they would like to see in their community,\u201d said Monica Devi Bhakti of Tiospaye.<\/p>\n<p>The art piece was well-received by members of the Public Art Commission for its message and use of local artists in its construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vision for doing something positive and artistic is very exciting,\u201d said commissioner Charles Leslie. \u201cThe durability is solid and the materials speak for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tiospaye anticipates the sculpture, which is nearing completion, will cost about $32,000, which is fully funded by in-kind donations.<\/p>\n<p>The commission discussed installing the sculpture at Rank Park or along the Animas River Trail near the Durango Mall.
