{"id":76549,"date":"2018-02-28T21:38:44","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T04:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/dove-creek-girls-ready-for-regionals\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T18:04:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T18:04:51","slug":"dove-creek-girls-ready-for-regionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/dove-creek-girls-ready-for-regionals\/","title":{"rendered":"Dove Creek girls ready for regionals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f2dcdbfd-a695-4069-9a10-63b3a1f864b0&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"853\" height=\"757\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>After finishing last season with a 4-15 record, the much-improved Dove Creek High School girls basketball team will face Belleview Christian in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament with a berth in the state tournament on the line.<\/p>\n<p>The contest will likely be a challenging one for the Bulldogs as Belleview Christian will enter the contest with a 17-5 record after winning the Class 1A District 8 Tournament last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Dove Creek finished second in the Class 1A District 1 Tournament last weekend after defeating De Beque, 54-38, in the semifinals and losing to North Park, 53-38, in the District Championship game.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Cassie Gatlin paced Dove Creek in scoring against De Beque with 19 points, while senior Marissa Hatfield scored 11 points and freshman Grace Hatfield scored 10. Gatlin scored a team-high 14 points during her team\u2019s loss to North Park.<\/p>\n<p>If the Bulldogs hope to upset Belleview at regionals, the team clad in blue and gold will need to contain junior Brooke Long, who averaged a team-high 13.2 points this season.
