{"id":75871,"date":"2017-11-28T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/regional-nonprofits-get-a-platform-for-colorado-gives-day\/"},"modified":"2017-11-28T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T20:00:00","slug":"regional-nonprofits-get-a-platform-for-colorado-gives-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/regional-nonprofits-get-a-platform-for-colorado-gives-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Regional nonprofits get a platform for Colorado Gives Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=cb2eb6fb-e99a-4fbb-a6ac-e765ce6ad82b&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Local charities gather for a photo in front of the new Cortez sign to raise awareness for Colorado Gives Day on Dec. 5, 2017.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Local charities gather for a photo in front of the new Cortez sign to raise awareness for Colorado Gives Day on Dec. 5, 2017.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Emily Rice\/The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swcommunityfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Foundation<\/a> serving Southwest Colorado is leading a regional effort to increase participation during Colorado Gives Day, on Dec. 5, through an online initiative that allows donors to contribute to nonprofits in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The regional platform, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradogives.org\/SouthwestColoradoGives\/index.php%3Fsection%3DpartnershipContent%26action%3Dmain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.swcogives.org<\/a>, was created to host participating nonprofits in La Plata, Montezuma, Archuleta and San Juan counties.<\/p>\n<p>To raise awareness to Colorado Gives Day, on the National Day of Giving, representatives from local nonprofits gathered for a photo at the new Cortez sign.<\/p>\n<p>Habitat for Humanity of Montezuma County, Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, Medicine Horse Center and the Dolores River Boating Advocates were present at the gathering. Other participants in the regional platform include CASA of the Southwest, Galloping Goose Historical Society of Dolores, Hospice of Montezuma and the Pi\u00f1on Project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a statewide thing, but we\u2019ve noticed that a lot of people aren\u2019t aware that it is a thing, so we are trying to drum up additional local response to bring attention to all the good work that we do,\u201d Molly Greenlee, director at Habitat for Humanity, said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Paul Maddex, director of marketing and sales of Crow Canyon, his organization is asking donors to wait until Dec. 5.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea is to kind of get it going and start to create awareness in this area of Southwest Colorado,\u201d Maddex said.<\/p>\n<p>Lynne Howarth, of the Medicine Horse Center in Mancos, hopes to raise funds for scholarships for the \u201cunderserved\u201d population of Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolores River Boating Advocates aim to raise awareness of their January event, a \u201cpermit party,\u201d according to founding board member Wade Hanson.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Giving Day is organized by the Community First Foundation in Arvada, which offers a statewide platform, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradogives.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.coloradogives.org<\/a>, that includes nearly 3,000 Colorado nonprofits. Last year, statewide donations during Colorado Gives Day totaled $33.8 million, and $143,595 went to nonprofits in Southwest Colorado.
