Abatement of the retired Montezuma-Cortez High School continues, according to a news release dated Dec. 8.<\/p>\n
According to the release, Colorado Hazard Control is using a dustless method similar to remove the wall coating. The resulting material is then sealed in two layers of plastic and transported to an Environmental Protection Agency-approved landfill in Utah.<\/p>\n
The process began at the west end of the building.<\/p>\n
Abatement and demolition are scheduled for summer 2018.<\/p>\n
In an attached news release, Colorado Hazard Control announced that it is offering free training for potential employees. These workers would help with the abatement of the retired M-CHS high school.<\/p>\n
The free 40-hour class will be held Dec. 18-22 at the RE-1 central administration building, 400 N. Elm St., according to a news release. It is a first class that must be completed by applicants. Then, applicants must complete a state test and pass a physical and fitness test to be considered for employment with Colorado Hazard Control.<\/p>\n
\u201cWages for abatement techs begin at approximately $15 per hour, and Colorado Hazard Control offers competitive benefits after 90 days of employment,\u201d according to the news release.<\/p>\n
The class is limited to 10, although a second class may be opened if enough individuals are interested.<\/p>\n
