Renew\/Wings held the second annual \u201cAn Evening in Her Shoes\u201d on Saturday at the Elks Club in Cortez.<\/p>\n
Men competed as \u201ccinematic bombshells\u201d in the categories of talent, evening gown and interview, with a chance at the title of \u201cMs. Ter 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year, Shawn Bittle won third place as Granny from \u201cThe Beverly Hillbillies,\u201d and last year\u2019s winner, Gary Noyes, took second as Dorothy from \u201cThe Wizard of Oz.\u201d<\/p>\n
The title \u201cMs. Ter 2017\u201d went to Bill Connor.<\/p>\n
The event benefits Renew, a domestic and sexual violence and advocacy center in Cortez. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Renew wanted to bring attention to domestic violence, said Renew\u2019s program director, Mary Fuller.<\/p>\n
For Kristy Aiken, it was her second year attending the pageant.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was just a lot of fun,\u201d she said. \u201cThe guys made it very entertaining, and the money goes to a very good cause, and I just wanted to support Renew again this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s pageant was hosted by Jill Carlson and DJ\u2019d by PA Jackson, with performances by Durango comedians Bailey Rae Lammon and Elliot Webber, and local musician Carrie Schneider LeMay.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had quite a bit of presale,\u201d said Fuller. \u201cI don\u2019t know about the final numbers because the contestants sold tickets too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought some of the guys enjoyed it more than they should have,\u201d Mary Ann Findley said. \u201cIt made it all the more fun, and we got a kick out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Renew offers free and confidential services to Montezuma and Dolores county residents that include a safe house, a 24-hour hotline, professional counseling, and criminal and civil justice support.<\/p>\n
