More than 100 motorcyclists revved their engines down Main Avenue on Sunday morning as part of the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally Parade.<\/span>Patrick Armijo\/Durango Herald<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>

Motorcyclists from around the region trekked to Southwest Colorado as the revamped Four Corners Motorcycle Rally celebrated its third year under sunny Labor Day weekend skies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re 1,113 miles from home right now,\u201d said Brian Breu. \u201cWe\u2019re coming from Arizona. We went to the Four Corners Monument to Ouray, and now we\u2019re headed back home. We\u2019ll go through Monument Valley on Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breu said he discovered the rally<\/a> was underway when Brian DeChriste, a riding buddy, let him know about it after one of his friends recently moved to Southwest Colorado.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe took him up on his offer to visit,\u201d DeChriste said. \u201cWe\u2019ll definitely be back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Breu added, \u201cWe\u2019re looking for our next summer getaway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trevor Bird, owner of Durango Harley-Davidson<\/a> and organizer of the rally, added several events this year, including a women\u2019s-only ride called \u201cDames in Durango\u201d and \u201cride like a pro\u201d demonstration classes. Other new events included an arm-wrestling contest and the Wheelie Pig\u2019s Hill Climb Challenge at Purgatory Resort.<\/p>\n

Bird put on his first Four Corners Motorcycle Rally in 2017 with only a few weeks to prepare after taking over the event from a previous owner who had trouble making it financially viable and had let the event go dark for a few years.<\/p>\n

Since 2017, Bird has added professional management, bringing aboard Freeze Management, which puts on concerts, motorcycle, motor sports and other lifestyle events, to help organize and market the rally nationwide.<\/p>\n

John Kielkowski of Cortez said he\u2019s impressed at the rally\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great attraction for the area, and I think it will grow,\u201d he said. \u201cMy wife\u2019s an instructor with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and she teaches several motorcycle instruction classes for Trevor, and I think he\u2019s doing a great job with this.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou meet new people and you always make new friends, doctors, lawyers, poor people, the whole gamut,\u201d Kielkowski said.<\/p>\n

Gary and Brenda Wessell from South Dakota were RVing in the area with their motorcycles in tow and stumbled upon the rally.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just happened to be here. We didn\u2019t know the rally was this weekend. Motorcycling anywhere is enjoyable, but it was nice to be here with riders visiting from all over the country,\u201d Gary Wessell said.<\/p>\n
