{"id":73961,"date":"2019-08-14T13:28:30","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T19:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/texas-woman-dies-while-off-roading-outside-silverton\/"},"modified":"2019-08-14T19:28:30","modified_gmt":"2019-08-14T19:28:30","slug":"texas-woman-dies-while-off-roading-outside-silverton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/texas-woman-dies-while-off-roading-outside-silverton\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas woman dies while off-roading outside Silverton"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=4a8cfb50-40b9-4ad0-ac9c-8c65ed24f1b8&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"831\" height=\"467\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Texas woman died Tuesday while riding an off-highway vehicle in the backcountry of the San Juan Mountains, north of Silverton.<\/p>\n<p>The San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/San-Juan-County-Sheriffs-Office-Colorado-222253791278513\/posts\/?ref=notif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote in a post to social media<\/a> on Wednesday that emergency crews responded to the scene at Corkscrew Pass, a popular off-road route off U.S. Highway 550 near Red Mountain Pass.<\/p>\n<p>The Sheriff\u2019s Office said the injured person was met by emergency crews while coming down the mountain in a private Jeep. She was then transferred to an ambulance where her condition quickly worsened and CPR was initiated.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the effort of emergency personnel, the injured person, identified as \u201cSandy\u201d Anita Posey of Amarillo, Texas, died as a result of her injuries. Her age was not included in the post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. Posey was traveling with family and friends, and was the sole operator of a quad-style vehicle when injured,\u201d the Sheriff\u2019s Office wrote. \u201cWe are again sadly reminded of the dangers of mountain recreation.
