Their hearty sandwiches are named for the big time heroines of the West, and a nice brochure at each table gives a short history of these famous women. Their ice cream is from Moose and More who have added ice cream pies to their menu. By April, there may be an outdoor dining area and perhaps live music. Driving east on U.S. 160, we came to Brown\u2019s Country Store. Until April 1, they are keeping their winter hours (Sunday open by appointment only; closed Mondays). They are busy building another greenhouse for more veggies and tomatoes through Christmas. They\u2019ve been busy birthing lambs and goats. Sadly, the lamb I fed was too small and not strong enough to bear the cold weather. I did get to see a baby goat, who tore a paper from my notebook, and tried to chew a hole in my sweatshirt. As we drove away, the baby goats were playing head-butting, jumping, knocking each other over, and having fun with no mother to stop them. Brown\u2019s Country Store is the first house on the right after the bridge on U.S. 160.<\/p>\n
The Lions Club had fun at the Senior Center celebrating St. Pat\u2019s Day with a yummy corned-beef and cabbage meal, lots of games and prizes \u2013 T-shirts, green jewelry, and more. Thank you, Mancos Lions.<\/p>\n
Saturday was the Mancos Melt Putt Putt Golf Tournament. The weather was warm, the golf holes all enticing, and golfers eager. After playing the 17 holes, the winners were:<\/p>\n
First: Rob and Jen Kirk, a round of golf at Dalton Ranch<\/p>\n
Second: Ryan and Kerly, a round of golf at Hillcrest Golf Course<\/p>\n
Third: Phil and Megan Russell, a round of golf at Conquistador Golf Course<\/p>\n
Fourth: Linda James and Bonnie Bryant, $50 at Eolus.<\/p>\n
Linda James and Bonnie Bryant won the first-place award for costume as The Bearded Ladies, and Mary Wilson came in second as a clown. Tim Hunter won the award for golf hole design, at the Mancos brewery.<\/p>\n
Last week, I suggested that while golfing at Artisans of Mancos, you should look at the new artist Karen Sizelove-Murphy\u2019s hats and bows. Did you? I did today with a friend, and we both walked out with a hat. I hardly ever wear one, but this was a special bear hat, and I liked it. Karen and her husband, Harris Murphy, were there, and we spent a good hour laughing and talking and trying on her things. Karen and Harris volunteered at the VFW lunch.
