In front are: the shirtless Brigg Decker, coach Miranda Ludington, coach Kevin Ketterer, JaredMichael Gripp, Jenna Barner holding Alyssa Barner, and Sam Bagge holding Erin Lawrence.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Amber Barner\/For The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That\u2019s \u201cpretty phenomenal for a first-year team,\u201d said head coach Kevin Ketterer.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Deanna Bagge attributes much of the success to Ketterer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis enthusiasm, as well as his big voice, can be heard most mornings at the Cortez Recreational Pool,\u201d Bagge said.<\/p>\n<p>Ketterer has 30 years of coaching experience. He is assisted by Miranda and Chris Ludington, who bring their swimming experience and their experience working with youths to the coaching team.<\/p>\n<p>The Cortez club started in April 2016 with year-round swimming, but after a good turnout for its summer season, added  it to the club\u2019s lineup. The club also has a masters practice team, which meets twice a week at the Cortez Rec Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome days, it\u2019s hard to tell who is having more fun, the year-round swimmers or the master swimmers,\u201d said club board member Amber Barner.<\/p>\n<p>Parents also seem positive about the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy kids have learned not only how to have fun and be competitive at the same time, but to take what they\u2019ve learned from their coaches and apply it to everyday life,\u201d Paula Podgornoff said.<\/p>\n<p>Parents\u2019 support helps keep the team going, Barner said.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the swim club, email <a href=\"mailto:swim.mvac@gmail.com\">swim.mvac@gmail.com<\/a> or call 970-739-5625.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>swimmers, from upper left: Anna Lawrence holds Maddy Ludington, Roohk Fairley is in the gray jacket beside Trent Bagge and coach Chris Ludington.
