Dove Creek seniors Dante Gallegos and Savannah Ayers were named king and queen at the Bulldogs\u2019 homecoming ceremony on Friday.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the evening, Ayers and the Lady Bulldog volleyball team took down the visiting Dolores Bears.<\/p>\n
Dolores won the first two sets to jump ahead early, but the Lady Bulldogs clawed back to win three straight and take the match, 3-2 (17-25, 20-25, 27-25, 25-15, 15-9).<\/p>\n
The win pushed Dove Creek to 5-4 on the year and 3-4 in the 1A\/2A San Juan Basin League, while the loss dropped Dolores to 3-9 and 2-5 in the SJBL.<\/p>\n
The Lady Bears travel to Mancos on Thursday at 4 p.m. and host Ouray on Friday at 3 p.m., and Dove Creek hosts Telluride on Friday at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
And then Dolores and Dove Creek will meet for their second and final head-to-head league match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
Following the volleyball contest, the Dove Creek football team took to the field for its 2016 homecoming matchup against the Nederland Panthers.<\/p>\n
The Bulldogs had picked up their first win of the season against Del Norte the week prior, holding on to win by eight, 36-28.<\/p>\n
But they were unable to make it two in a row, as the Panthers shut them out 42-0.<\/p>\n
The Bulldogs (1-4, 1-1 A-8 Southwest League) have another tough game ahead of them on Friday in an away contest against the Sargent Farmers (5-0, 2-0 A-8 SW).<\/p>\n
