{"id":68532,"date":"2017-04-18T14:22:48","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T20:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/man-of-la-mancha-featured-on-dolores-stage\/"},"modified":"2017-04-18T20:22:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T20:22:48","slug":"man-of-la-mancha-featured-on-dolores-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/man-of-la-mancha-featured-on-dolores-stage\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Man of La Mancha\u2019 featured on Dolores stage"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=146ba275-f81b-4f38-836e-46ea39b9fb96&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1403\" alt=\"The cast and director for \u201cThe Man of La Mancha\u201d pose for a picture during rehearsal at Dolores High School.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The cast and director for \u201cThe Man of La Mancha\u201d pose for a picture during rehearsal at Dolores High School.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Sam Green\/The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Dolores Schools theater group will perform \u201cMan of La Mancha\u201d on April 21 at 7 p.m. and on April 22 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Student actors said the audience can expect a lively performance of the classic play, inspired by the 17th century masterpiece, \u201cDon Quixote,\u201d by Miguel de Cervantes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa Mancha\u201d features the fantastical adventures of Quixote, played by Jade Reynolds, and his sidekick Sancho, played by Courtney Corbitt.<\/p>\n<p>The characters are on a quest to restore the age of chivalry and battle all evil, including the famous fight with the ogre masquerading as a windmill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is fun to play a foolhardy and boisterous character like Quixote, to fight with windmills and lose,\u201d Reynolds says, of his first lead role. \u201cThe play is creative and awe-inspiring, with way more lines and choreography than we have done before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather than singing, songs such as \u201cImpossible Dream,\u201d will be read with \u201cpoetic and dramatic flair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The one-act play is fluid, and delivers the story with a punch, added Corbitt, who started out as director, but got roped into a main role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a surprise to be on stage, learning all these lines,\u201d she says. \u201cThe play is really fun and takes the audience on an adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quixote\u2019s lady friend, Aldonza, is played by Sarah Cochrane and speaks to the many lessons of the play. \u201cShe is very jaded at first but then gets swept up in his delusions and positive vision,\u201d Cochrane says. \u201cI like how she grows as a person in the play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The line \u201clove not what thy art, but what thy may become\u201d is a central theme of the timeless story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is one of the most iconic pieces of literature ever written, and has a really nice message without seeming preachy,\u201d Cochrane says. \u201cHe has a vision to make the world a better place and does not care if he gets knocked down.
