{"id":68357,"date":"2016-10-27T18:40:49","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T00:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/m-chs-volleyball-season-comes-to-a-close\/"},"modified":"2016-10-28T00:40:49","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T00:40:49","slug":"m-chs-volleyball-season-comes-to-a-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/m-chs-volleyball-season-comes-to-a-close\/","title":{"rendered":"M-CHS volleyball season comes to a close"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f0802c42-ee0f-446e-b67e-3a037d1d7082&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1332\" alt=\"M-CHS volleyball players Rylee Lindsley, Kaila Carver, Skylar Robinson and Danielle McDonald were honored prior to the Panthers\u2019 season-ending win on senior night.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">M-CHS volleyball players Rylee Lindsley, Kaila Carver, Skylar Robinson and Danielle McDonald were honored prior to the Panthers\u2019 season-ending win on senior night.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Sam Green\/The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>After tracking the standings of the Colorado High School Activities Association\u2019s Rating Percentage Index (RPI), the Montezuma-Cortez volleyball team is calling it a wrap.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Panthers ended the 2016 season with a senior night win over Monte Vista to finish with an 8-14 record \u2013 an improvement from last year\u2019s 4-18 performance.<\/p>\n<p>But with the team sitting at No. 43 in the RPI standings as of Thursday and with the Class 3A Regional Tournament seeding just 36 squads, head coach Dave Robinson made the tough decision to shut things down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been watching it all weekend, but just had that reality on Monday that even with a four-game swing it\u2019s not enough point movement for us,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe\u2019re sitting at 43rd and we\u2019d have to jump quite a bit to get in, so we decided to call it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Robinson said the team is prepared to play if something crazy were to happen that leads to the Panthers being slotted into the postseason bracket, he doesn\u2019t foresee it happening.<\/p>\n<p>M-CHS finished the season with 37 players and was able to fill a varsity, junior varsity and two C teams, which Robinson was pleased with. He also spoke highly of the way his teams worked hard and competed this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI consider all that a success this year,\u201d he said. \u201cNot only the schedule, which was nice with our record, but the overall feeling from the girls that were excited for volleyball and glad to be around each other.
