{"id":67731,"date":"2017-03-13T22:52:34","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T04:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/steven-elias-selected-to-be-fort-lewis-college-business-dean\/"},"modified":"2017-03-14T04:52:34","modified_gmt":"2017-03-14T04:52:34","slug":"steven-elias-selected-to-be-fort-lewis-college-business-dean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/steven-elias-selected-to-be-fort-lewis-college-business-dean\/","title":{"rendered":"Steven Elias selected to be Fort Lewis College business dean"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=5ac73625-d15d-42fb-bb93-ca259d5b0c48&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1389\" height=\"2083\" alt=\"Elias\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Elias<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>After a search that included meeting with the public, Fort Lewis College has selected Steven Elias to be the new dean of the School of Business Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Elias will take over for Interim Dean Paul McGurr this summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all agree that Dr. Elias will be a great asset to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortlewis.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fort Lewis College<\/a> and the School of Business Administration,\u201d Provost Barbara Morris said, \u201cas we engage in strategic planning and envision our future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He comes to FLC from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Mexico State University <\/a>in Las Cruces, where he is the Robert O. Anderson Distinguished Professor in the College of Business. Elias is also co-director of the School Turnaround Development Program, an interdisciplinary initiative between NMSU\u2019s Colleges of Business and Education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt NMSU, he helped raise millions of dollars for the university,\u201d FLC said in a news release, \u201cin order to develop and run programs meant to expose those in public education to business principles that can be used in the daily operations of schools and school districts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his time in Las Cruces, Elias has also served as director of the Woodrow Wilson MBA (Master of Business Administration) Fellowship in Education Leadership program, interim associate dean for research and head of the Management Program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom a professional standpoint, Fort Lewis College has excellent leadership, and the School of Business Administration has outstanding faculty, students and staff,\u201d Elias said. \u201cIt is hard not to be excited to join such a great campus community located in such a beautiful city. Ultimately, I am excited about this opportunity, given how important I feel it is to promote close relationships, which fits very well with the fact that fostering relationships happens to be one of the hallmarks of a Fort Lewis College Education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among Elias\u2019 career honors are being named an NMSU Teaching Academy Fellow and a Bill Daniels Fellow in Ethics in 2010.
