And bring those dancing shoes,\u201d Gans said.<\/p>\n<p>The performance is part of the \u201cBuild A Better World\u201d Summer Library Programs at the Dolores library.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re supposed to be entertaining and educating kids,\u201d the Colorado-based singer-songwriter said. \u201cIf it\u2019s not coming from the heart or isn\u2019t fun, I won\u2019t write it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His productions include themed projects known as The Alphabet Songs Series and the album \u201cDandelion.\u201d His recent \u201cOnce I Lived Upon the Sea,\u201d a collection of softer pieces, continues his musical exploration.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks is known for layering acoustic songs with percussion including cans, pots and pans. His range of styles includes reggae, bluegrass and folk-hop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce I Lived Upon the Sea\u201d includes the bluegrass of \u201cYellow Jacket,\u201d the water-themed instrumentals \u201cRain,\u201d \u201cCreek\u201d and \u201cOcean\u201d and the melodious \u201cDog Beach,\u201d a song about one dog\u2019s pure joy at being let off leash by the sea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is simple, elegant songwriting,\u201d said Kenny Curtis, program director at Sirius XM satellite radio, \u201cwith a heavy dose of whimsy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weeks, who placed first  in the children\u2019s music category of the 2007 U.S. Songwriting Competition, boasts four tracks that have reached No. 1 on Sirius XM\u2019s Kids Place Live.<\/p>\n<p>Woven throughout his songs are heartfelt messages and stories that young and old alike can appreciate, the news release said. \u201cTurn Out the Lights\u201d is considered both a lullaby and a parent\u2019s promise. \u201cOnce I Lived Upon the Sea\u201d warmly reminds that being a parent is just another new and beautiful adventure.<\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina native says his kids music evolved from a series of well-liked songs he composed for his children\u2019s preschool.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about library programs for kids, visit http:\/\/doloreslibrary.org\/kids or call 970-882-4127.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about performer Steve Weeks, visit from www.steveweeks.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cCome prepared to laugh.
