The Superfund includes 48 mining-related sites the EPA says are the top contributors to metal loading into the upper Animas watershed.<\/p>\n<p>In March, <a href=\"https:\/\/durangoherald.com\/articles\/266553\">EPA project manager Rebecca Thomas announced her retirement<\/a>, wrapping up more than 30 years with the agency. Thomas had<a href=\"https:\/\/durangoherald.com\/articles\/110151-superfund-project-manager-known-for-community-outreach\"> been lauded by Silverton and San Juan County<\/a> officials for her efforts at transparency and communication.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=dea254c7-0fe1-4205-a1a2-7698b49c221e&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2800\" alt=\"Progess\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Progess<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The EPA said in a news release that Progess has more than 15 years\u2019 experience working as a remedial project manager in Region 8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe great majority of her experience has been at mining sites in the Rocky Mountains,\u201d the EPA said.<\/p>\n<p>Progess has worked at several cleanup sites in Colorado: the Standard Mine in Crested Butte, Captain Jack near Ward and Clear Creek near Idaho Springs.
