Bernie Sanders, who was declared the winner of the state, and former Vice President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so excited to be with you after what I would say is a pretty good day in Nevada,\u201d Buttigieg told the 8,500-person crowd. \u201cI believe the purpose of the presidency is not the glorification of the president. It is the unification and empowerment of the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former two-term mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is the first openly gay presidential candidate to get traction in the polls. Elipio Darling of Lakewood said he liked the candidate\u2019s forward-thinking attitude but was uneasy after hearing about Nevada\u2019s results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very nervous about that, but I have a lot of faith so I think it\u2019ll turn around, hopefully,\u201d he said, adding that it\u2019s hard to say what could happen if the candidate isn\u2019t able to attract voters of color.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can only speak for myself, as a person of color, but I do know a lot of people of color that are behind him but they have mixed feelings and emotions just like with any other candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Ungeranderson from southeast Aurora said she worries about how Buttigieg will make it to November if he can\u2019t turn that aspect of his following around.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got to figure out some way to reach that divide and reach out and get people of different ethnicities involved because they have so much more at stake,\u201d she said. \u201cI think Mayor Pete is one of the most intelligent candidates we have running. His background is incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ungeranderson said Buttigieg\u2019s military background will make him a great leader. She likes his stance on Medicare for those who want it and favors him over other candidates because he\u2019s more moderate. But she said she would support a more left-leaning candidate like Sanders.<\/p>\n<p>Wilma Trujillo of Greeley said she likes that Buttigieg is young and has fresh ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s pro finding solutions to climate change,\u201d she said. \u201cI think for him, education is important. I\u2019m not asking for free tuition but funds to do research to maintain my education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said she was disappointed he didn\u2019t win Nevada but thinks it\u2019s because Latinos in the state didn\u2019t vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of Latinos,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot more diverse state, and I\u2019m disappointed that we didn\u2019t show up there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=7d83cae1-132b-4004-a083-e19b81eed20b&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"Democratic presidential candidate and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg speaks to supporters Saturday night, Feb. 22, in Denver. The candidate held a fundraising event at the Filmore Auditorium, where attendees had to pay to get in. There, supporters said they liked his stance on climate change, gun control and health care. But again, many worried he wasn\u2019t able to appeal to voters of color.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold made an appearance and presented Buttigieg with questions submitted by audience members. Buttigieg offered him his advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ll never know whose life you\u2019ll be affecting just by standing here,\u201d he said. \u201cEven if I can\u2019t promise it\u2019ll always be easy, I can promise you that I\u2019m going to be rooting for you and I think there\u2019s going to be a whole bunch of people here who are going to be rooting for you every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg encouraged attendees to remain hopeful even if they have election fatigue and are exhausted by politics today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve all got our reasons to worry but we\u2019ve all got our reasons to hope,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado will participate in Super Tuesday\u2019s presidential primaries March 3, alongside at least a dozen other states.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg\u2019s visit comes as other Democratic candidates plan to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/the-journal.com\/articles\/169076-want-to-ask-the-democratic-presidential-candidates-a-question\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado ahead of Super Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., plans a rally at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 1, in Denver. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., plans a fundraiser, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Denver, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, plans a rally and a meet-and-greet, 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Boulder.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\"><a href=\"https:\/\/the-journal.com\/articles\/169050-gardner-goes-allin-with-trump-calls-results-for-colorado-astounding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Donald Trump<\/a> on Thursday visited the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs. More than an estimated 8,100 people attended, including Republican officials and Republican Sen.
