{"id":66054,"date":"2020-03-04T17:20:06","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T00:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-area-cyclist-hit-killed-in-southwest-la-plata-county\/"},"modified":"2020-03-05T00:20:06","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T00:20:06","slug":"durango-area-cyclist-hit-killed-in-southwest-la-plata-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-area-cyclist-hit-killed-in-southwest-la-plata-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Durango-area cyclist hit, killed in southwest La Plata County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=fc04f4ab-b7e9-4230-9b7e-c8c68db9527d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1413\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Durango bicyclist was killed Wednesday after being hit by a pickup truck west of Marvel in southwest La Plata County.<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred about 12:08 p.m. on County Road 105, less than a mile north of County Road 100, according to the Colorado State Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>A green 1991 Ford Ranger was traveling south on County Road 105 when it struck the cyclist, who was traveling northbound, according to the State Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pickup truck traveled off the right side of the road, colliding with a fence, continued through a field, and then off an embankment before coming to rest on its right side in Cherry Creek,\u201d the State Patrol said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The cyclist came to rest on the road and was pronounced dead at the scene. The cyclist\u2019s name was not released Wednesday night pending notification of family members.<\/p>\n<p>La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith said the victim is a man about 40 years old. The State Patrol said he was riding a Specialized Tarmac bicycle. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the pickup was identified as Cordell Schneider, 19, of Durango.
