{"id":65677,"date":"2019-07-16T18:32:52","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T00:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/morning-crash-snarls-traffic-at-elmores-corner-east-of-durango\/"},"modified":"2019-07-17T00:32:52","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T00:32:52","slug":"morning-crash-snarls-traffic-at-elmores-corner-east-of-durango","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/morning-crash-snarls-traffic-at-elmores-corner-east-of-durango\/","title":{"rendered":"Morning crash snarls traffic at Elmore\u2019s Corner east of Durango"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=c83f63e4-56c2-4f2e-b7fe-b561137fdac1&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"831\" height=\"467\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The morning commute took longer than usual for drivers east of Durango, where a two-vehicle crash led to significant delays around the Elmore\u2019s Corner intersection.<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred about 7:50 a.m. when a newer-model silver Ford F-150 attempted to turn left from U.S. Highway 160 onto Colorado Highway 172 and collided with an older-model white Chevy Tahoe traveling east toward Bayfield.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey hit front-to-front, basically head-on,\u201d said Trooper Jeff Chmielewski. \u201c\u2026 Since it was sort of a head-on, we had some speed involved in the impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chevy Tahoe rolled onto its left side, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as Pablo Aguilar, 90, was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. He was treated and transferred, according to a hospital spokeswoman. His condition and location were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was treated on scene.<\/p>\n<p>Both drivers wore seat belts, Chmielewski said.<\/p>\n<p>No drugs, alcohol or excessive speed are suspected to be factors in the crash, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar was cited with careless driving causing injury.<\/p>\n<p>Highway 172 was closed at the intersection, and the La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s Office set up detours to reroute traffic. Highway 160 remained open in both directions, but eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
