{"id":64985,"date":"2020-04-18T00:55:42","date_gmt":"2020-04-18T06:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/quilters-contribute-nearly-2000-face-masks\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T04:40:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T10:40:35","slug":"quilters-contribute-nearly-2000-face-masks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/quilters-contribute-nearly-2000-face-masks\/","title":{"rendered":"Quilters contribute nearly 2,000 face masks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=85e6f6e7-af88-47c0-b0c2-c864fe9df0cc&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1503\" height=\"706\" alt=\"Dolores Mountain Quilters are endeavoring to meet the immediate need for face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Dolores Mountain Quilters are endeavoring to meet the immediate need for face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Dolores Mountain Quilters<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Dolores Mountain Quilters have made and contributed nearly 2,000 face masks to hospitals and first responders, according to a news release from the group.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients include hospitals in Cortez, Shiprock and Crownpoint, the Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Sheriff\u2019s Posse, the Cortez Police Department, Veterans Outreach Center, The Bridge emergency shelter and Ute Mountain Victim Advocates, group president Suzanne Butterfield said.<\/p>\n<p>Members also made masks for personal use and for family, friends and neighbors, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ladies are sending their masks nationally as well to countless first responders \u2026 and I, myself, have sent some to Kirkland Air Force Base,\u201d Butterfield said in an email.<\/p>\n<p>Calling the effort \u201cpurely altruistic,\u201d Butterfield said she wanted the community to know how the guild\u2019s members \u201care trying to save human lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe more people need to know how they can save their communities,\u201d she said in a follow-up email to <em>The Journal.<\/em> \u201cThink about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As supplies in individual members\u2019 stashes became depleted, the guild received fabric donations from Stitch of Durango. Cortez Quilt Co. kept hours by appointment to further resupply  sewing supplies, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese masks have been primarily made from our own supplies and some donated fabric from Stitch, the quilt store in Durango,\u201d Butterfield said. \u201cSo this has been an incredible public service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To help by sewing or providing supplies, call Butterfield at (404) 374-6558 or Jan Mussler at 565-9122.
