{"id":64544,"date":"2019-10-31T18:42:04","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T00:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/fort-lewis-college-professor-pleads-not-guilty-to-arson-charges\/"},"modified":"2019-11-01T00:42:04","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T00:42:04","slug":"fort-lewis-college-professor-pleads-not-guilty-to-arson-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/fort-lewis-college-professor-pleads-not-guilty-to-arson-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Lewis College professor pleads not guilty to arson charges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=76b6ab02-a86a-48cf-b3a3-f5dc214636b5&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Clark\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Clark<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Fort Lewis College associate professor pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony arson charges related to a fire at south City Market in the chip aisle that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement accused Bradley Clark, 46, of trying to burn and destroy City Market after allegedly lighting a bag of Mission tortilla chips on fire earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors charged him with three Class 4 felonies \u2013 including attempting to commit first-degree arson, second-degree arson and criminal mischief \u2013 each of which is punishable by two to six years in prison and $2,000 to $500,000 in fines.<\/p>\n<p>District Court Judge Suzanne Carlson scheduled Clark\u2019s three-day trial to start Feb. 10, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Clark appeared in La Plata County Combined Courthouse on Thursday and declined to comment on his case. His defense attorney, Brian Schowalter, also declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Clark is very eager to get his life moving forward,\u201d Schowalter said to Carlson at the hearing. \u201cDr. Clark\u2019s life is essentially on hold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clark, a political science and philosophy associate professor at FLC, was placed on paid administrative leave after the arson allegations.
