The goats were shot at close range near the peak\u2019s summit.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Colorado Parks and Wildlife<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking for the public\u2019s help in collecting information related to two mountain goats that were shot and found dead on July 3, about 2.8 miles up the Quandary Peak Trail.<\/p>\n<p>On July 3 at about 3:30 p.m., two young male mountain goats, estimated to be between 1-2 years old, were shot and killed just over a half-mile from the summit of Quandary Peak, CPW said Sunday in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mountain goats were shot in the head with a pistol at close range,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n<p>Wildlife officers asked that anyone that was hiking to or from the summit on Tuesday afternoon to report any suspicious activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask that anyone who was near the summit of Quandary Peak Tuesday help us locate those responsible for this egregious poaching,\u201d said Tom Davies, district wildlife manager with CPW. \u201cKilling a mountain goat in this manner is a felony, and these poachers can face jail time, license suspensions and fines that can reach over $20,000 per animal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, <a href=\"http:\/\/cpw.state.co.us\/aboutus\/Pages\/OGT.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Operation Game Thief<\/a> increased the reward to $5,000 \u2013 up from $1,000 \u2013 for information leading to an arrest or citation in this case. Anyone with information can call or email Operation Game Thief at 1-877-COLO-OGT or <a href=\"mailto:game.thief@state.co.us\">game.thief@state.co.us<\/a> to report any information.
