Around 10 years ago, he didn\u2019t know exactly what he wanted to do.<\/p>\n<p>Spurned by the idea of being self-reliant, he started farming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was looking for something where I could work from home,\u201d Meyers said. \u201cAnd I enjoyed the idea of self-reliance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meyers started Summit Roots five years ago. Though it isn\u2019t certified, it is an organic farm that serves beets, carrots, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to do everything we can to go beyond the organic and make sure we\u2019re sustainable,\u201d Meyers said. \u201cWe have the whole spectrum of vegetables,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Summit Roots, located outside of Dolores, differentiates from other farms in the area by utilizing season extensions. Season extensions are when crops are grown and harvested outside the normal growing season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really focus on bringing things in early,\u201d Meyers said. \u201cWe\u2019ll have carrots right from the get-go. Beets, tomatoes \u2013 we\u2019ll get them early. That\u2019s kind of one of our things is having everything early.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is Summit Roots\u2019 third year at the Durango Farmers Market.
