{"id":63896,"date":"2018-07-29T15:57:30","date_gmt":"2018-07-29T21:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/missing-telluride-hiker-found-dead-after-apparent-fall\/"},"modified":"2018-07-29T21:57:30","modified_gmt":"2018-07-29T21:57:30","slug":"missing-telluride-hiker-found-dead-after-apparent-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/missing-telluride-hiker-found-dead-after-apparent-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"Missing Telluride hiker found dead after apparent fall"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:a97e2b27-6db1-4397-bd6d-9eff7a24269e --><\/p>\n<p>TELLURIDE \u2013 A hiker missing in Southwest Colorado for over two weeks died of an apparent fall.<\/p>\n<p>San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters said the body of 55-year-old Tim Cannon was found July 26 on Ruffner Mountain, about 10 miles northwest of Telluride in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness after being spotted by a pilot.<\/p>\n<p>The experienced local hiker left home on July 8, telling his wife he planned to spend the day climbing Iron Mountain, another nearby peak.<\/p>\n<p>An extensive search involving drones, aircraft, search parties and the K-9 Search and Rescue team of Dolores was launched after Cannon failed to come home, galvanizing the community.<\/p>\n<p>Ruffner Mountain was previously searched from the air and ground, but Sheriff\u2019s Office spokeswoman Susan Lilly said the rough terrain and Cannon\u2019s dark clothing made it difficult to find him.<\/p>\n<p>In an unrelated search, the Sheriff\u2019s Office reported on July 26 that a missing hiker walked out on his own, claimed no injuries and was debriefed by Dolores County officials.
