Baby owls and tiny snowmen filled the Mancos Public Library on Saturday during the Holiday Maker Day Book Sale, sponsored by Mancos Friends of the Library.<\/p>\n
The used-book sale and craft time is becoming a tradition in Mancos, said Dana Peterson, technology manager at the Mancos Public Library. She said the library has experimented with makerspaces in the past, with technology like a 3D printer, but this time they went low-tech.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, I kind of wanted to unplug,\u201d Petersen said.<\/p>\n
Children\u2019s Librarian Julie Hartline led youngsters in creating holiday decorations and figurines out of felt, pipe cleaners, hot glue, acorns, fuzz balls, googly eyes and some help from sewing machines.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to do really simple crafts that kids can do with their parents,\u201d Hartline said.<\/p>\n
As kids crafted, Mancos resident Jo Young browsed the selection of books and CDs donated from community members.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m finding Christmas presents for my friends,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n
The proceeds from the book sale will benefit programming at the Mancos Public Library, Peterson said.<\/p>\n
She said the Mancos Friends of the Library this year purchased a large smart TV for the library to replace a projector. Funding from events like the book sale also support parties and prizes, Peterson said.<\/p>\n
