Bureau of Reclamation archaeologist Kristin Bowen will speak at the next meeting of the San Juan Basin Archaeological Society, 7 p.m. Nov. 14, at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.<\/p>\n
Bowen will speak about her experiences working as an archaeologist for the federal government and give updates on her office\u2019s current projects, according to a news release from Jill Tripp. She works in Durango as the lead archaeologist for the Bureau of Reclamation Western Colorado Area Office.<\/p>\n
Bowen started her career doing historic archaeology in Montana, specializing in mining related sites and documenting ghost towns. She has worked as an archaeologist for the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service, in Montana, New Mexico, Nevada and several locations in Colorado. Bowen is author of \u201cImages of America,\u201d a pictorial history book about Meeker.<\/p>\n
Bowen and her office are managing the cultural resource compliance work for the Navajo Gallup Water Supply Project, the Department of Interior\u2019s highest priority infrastructure project, and the largest federal archaeological project in the United States.<\/p>\n
