{"id":61871,"date":"2014-03-26T19:24:41","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T01:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/bears-struggle-in-aztec\/"},"modified":"2014-03-27T01:24:41","modified_gmt":"2014-03-27T01:24:41","slug":"bears-struggle-in-aztec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/bears-struggle-in-aztec\/","title":{"rendered":"Bears struggle in Aztec"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When it comes to scoring points and placing well, the 2014 track season has not been kind to teams from Dolores High School.<\/p>\n<p>That said, improvement has been evident for both a boys and a girls team that could excel in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>Girls team continues to grow<\/p>\n<p>Competing in a 13-team field at the Aztec Ice Breaker on March 22, the Bears girls acquitted themselves well, finishing tenth overall.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the Bears with two top-ten finishes was Olivia Wright, who crossed the line fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.50) and seventh in the 200 (28.93).  Wright also performed decently in the 100, finishing 14th with a time of 13.97.<\/p>\n<p>Also performing well for the Bears was Taylor Elder, who, continuing to improve every meet, finished sixth in the 200 (28.40).<\/p>\n<p>Also cracking the top-10 for the Bears, Brianna Schwartz finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.72) and Larissa Umberger finished sixth in the 300 hurdles (53.56).<\/p>\n<p>Boys team still developing<\/p>\n<p>Although the boys team did not manage to score any points, thus finishing last in the meet, several Dolores athletes turned in season-best performances.<\/p>\n<p>Pacing the Bears team with an 11th-place finish in the 300 hurdles (56.54) and a 25th place finish in the shot put (24 feet, 11 inches) was Kelly Charles.<\/p>\n<p>Other top male finishers for the Bears included Rylan Huff, who finished 18th in the 200 (25.86) and 24th in the 100 (12.33).<\/p>\n<p>Damien Marquez also enjoyed a solid meet for Dolores, finishing 26th in the 200 (26.67) and 42nd in the 100 (12.89).<\/p>\n<p>Many other boys also turned in decent performances.<\/p>\n<p>Hoping to continue making improvements, the Bears track teams will compete in Cortez (March 26) before traveling to Bayfield for a meet on April 5.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Schwartz, Umberger, Elder finish in top 10<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[188],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-61871","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","tag-dolores-star"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/61871","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=61871"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/61871\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=61871"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=61871"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=61871"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=61871"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
