{"id":61702,"date":"2014-03-19T00:47:43","date_gmt":"2014-03-19T06:47:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/area-farmers-forming-distribution-co-op\/"},"modified":"2026-03-28T23:52:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T23:52:38","slug":"area-farmers-forming-distribution-co-op","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/area-farmers-forming-distribution-co-op\/","title":{"rendered":"Area farmers forming distribution co-op"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A wholesale distribution cooperative for local farmers and ranchers launched Thursday under the banner Southwest Farm Fresh, A Farm and Ranch Cooperative.<\/p>\n<p>The group of about 20 area producers plans to start wholesale distribution to restaurants, hospitals and schools this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The group sees strong demand for local food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem is not going to be selling our product, the problem is going to be we\u2019re not going to have enough product to sell,\u201d said Vic Vanik, a board member.<\/p>\n<p>Vanic is an owner of Four Seasons Greenhouse, and he can\u2019t keep up with the demand from Telluride restaurants this month.<\/p>\n<p>The group hopes that it will be able open up new markets while cutting delivery costs for local growers.
