Representatives from T&N Properties are scheduled to host the open house at the Mancos Schools Performance Center from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe developers plan to share information on a potential Family Dollar store to be located in town,\u201d said Mancos Town Administrator Andrea Phillips.<\/p>\n
In addition to answering questions from residents, Phillips said the developers are also slated to present site plans and artist renderings of the proposed business. Based in Utah, T&N Properties is a regional developer for Family Dollar.<\/p>\n
Before any construction, developers must obtain access approval from the Colorado Department of Transportation.<\/p>\n
Phillips said that approval process is pending.<\/p>\n
In April, Mancos residents expressed concerns of allowing a chain store to invade their town, prompting town officials to place a six-month moratorium on commercial businesses more than 5,000 square feet.<\/p>\n
At the previous public meeting, opponents of the business worried that a discount retailer and national chain like Family Dollar would dilute both Mancos\u2019 support for local businesses and its cherished Western theme.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome residents have expressed concerns, and they want to ensure the town maintains its western rural character,\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n
Proponents of the business argue the town needs a place to purchase basic necessities, which would generate more revenues for town coffers.<\/p>\n
The proposed site for the business is at the northwest intersection of U.S. highways 160 and 184.<\/p>\n
Family Dollar has more than 7,000 locations in 44 U.S. states. Last year, Family Dollar ranked 301st on the Fortune 500 list.<\/p>\n
