{"id":53436,"date":"2020-06-08T14:13:07","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T20:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/authorities-unable-to-locate-parents-of-stillborn-baby-found-in-october\/"},"modified":"2020-06-08T20:13:07","modified_gmt":"2020-06-08T20:13:07","slug":"authorities-unable-to-locate-parents-of-stillborn-baby-found-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/authorities-unable-to-locate-parents-of-stillborn-baby-found-in-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Authorities unable to locate parents of stillborn baby found in October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=9bc5c97b-1e95-4c66-8a07-7507f7a15767&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1444\" height=\"749\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Authorities have been unable to locate the parents of a stillborn baby found last October northwest of Durango.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe never found the family,\u201d said La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith.<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 19, a hiker discovered the body of the female wrapped in a blanket in a forested area between the 3800 block of County Road 205 and the 3800 block of County Road 203.<\/p>\n<p>The La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/durangoherald.com\/articles\/299147\">initially investigated the incident as a homicide<\/a>, but later said it was no longer considered a homicide investigation. The Sheriff\u2019s Office then sought anyone with information about the incident.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy conducted later that week revealed the baby was stillborn, and the cause of death was a birth defect linked to brain damage.
