{"id":52724,"date":"2020-07-14T20:26:11","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T02:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-man-dies-after-going-off-county-road-501-near-vallecito\/"},"modified":"2020-07-15T02:26:11","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T02:26:11","slug":"durango-man-dies-after-going-off-county-road-501-near-vallecito","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-man-dies-after-going-off-county-road-501-near-vallecito\/","title":{"rendered":"Durango man dies after going off County Road 501 near Vallecito"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=617c30e2-4504-4d7c-8626-40f042bc426a&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"831\" height=\"467\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Durango man died this weekend after a driving off County Road 501 near Vallecito.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said the wreckage was found by a passerby around 11:30 a.m. Sunday near Cool Water Ranch, about 2 miles southwest of Vallecito and about 19 miles northeast of Durango.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis said the crash likely occurred hours before, either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators believe the driver, identified as Jesus Gutierrez, 29, failed to make a curve, hit a tree and rolled multiple times off the right side of County Road 501.<\/p>\n<p>Gutierrez was ejected 10 to 15 feet, La Plata County Coroner Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis said Gutierrez was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected through the sunroof of the 2011 Buick Regal.<\/p>\n<p>Smith said an autopsy will be conducted Thursday.
