{"id":52709,"date":"2020-07-15T12:25:10","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T18:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-man-accused-of-new-mexico-murder-is-sentenced-in-la-plata-county\/"},"modified":"2020-07-15T18:25:10","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T18:25:10","slug":"durango-man-accused-of-new-mexico-murder-is-sentenced-in-la-plata-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/durango-man-accused-of-new-mexico-murder-is-sentenced-in-la-plata-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Durango man accused of New Mexico murder is sentenced in La Plata County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=956fbac5-6e03-424f-9334-0e927411b0c5&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"600\" height=\"799\" alt=\"Greer\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Greer<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Durango man accused of murder in New Mexico has been sentenced to three years in prison on separate charges out of La Plata County for burglary and eluding police.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Iain Greer, 28, was arrested in La Plata County on March 29 for vehicular eluding, a Class 5 felony, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, after leading police on a high-speed car chase.<\/p>\n<p>Sixth Judicial District Attorney Christian Champagne said Greer was sentenced July 7 to three years at the Department of Corrections for the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Greer will also serve a two-year concurrent sentence at the Department of Corrections for a Class 6 felony of theft after stealing items from a home sometime in February or March 2020 on Wildcat Road, a small road off Wildcat Canyon Road (County Road 141) southwest of Durango.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators say Greer broke into the home, stole items such as jewelry and coins, and then sold them to a local pawn shop, according to an arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/durangoherald.com\/articles\/323255\">Greer is also one of three suspects accused of first-degree murder<\/a> for the death of a Bloomfield man who was fatally shot April 30.<\/p>\n<p>New Mexico authorities say Greer and another suspect, Mark Lindsey, 43, of Bloomfield shot and killed Leodis Williams, 51.
